Admissions Intro

The British School welcomes applications from families of all nationalities who share the School’s Vision, Mission and Core Values, and believe their children would benefit from our educational programmes. Applications for both immediate and future entry are considered at any time throughout the year. In all cases, an application form must be completed and submitted before further action can be taken.

Ages and Cut Off Dates

Applicants from the ages of around 2 to 18 years are eligible for admission at The British School. Children must be at least two years old before 31st of March in the year of entry to the Pre-Nursery. (For more information on class equivalency please check our table of comparison).

Priorities Policy
Priority admissions are given to British and Commonwealth citizens, siblings of students already on roll, returning families and the children of former The British School, Rio de Janeiro students. The acceptance of a student is not automatic; each family must complete the admission process.

Requirements

It is advisable that all applicants (except for Pre-Nursery and Nursery) are able to understand and communicate in English and, in the Upper Primary and Senior Sections, have sufficient English to access the curriculum. It is desirable that the children are exposed to the English language outside the school and helpful if at least one parent or guardian is fluent in English.

The Director is ultimately responsible for the area of Admissions, including policies and procedures. The Head of Admissions, Communications and Marketing manages the admissions process and is responsible for the daily admissions activities, visits, assessments, interviews and for the liaison between prospective parents and Heads of Sites and other members of the school community.
